Westmont was built around one rule: the partner who takes the file runs the file. Everything below follows from it.

These are working rules, not aspirations. Each one is checkable by the client it belongs to.
A partner on your call
The free 20-minute call is with a partner, not an intake service. Twenty minutes is enough to know where you stand. It is not a sales call: if you don’t need a lawyer, or you need a different kind of lawyer, you’ll hear that too.
An engagement letter within one business day
Decide to proceed, and the letter follows within one business day. It names the partner carrying the file, the scope of the work, the fee structure, and what happens first. If scope changes later, the letter changes first — before the work, not after the bill.
Calls returned before 4 p.m.
A file carried by a partner is never a file you can’t reach. Calls are returned before four o’clock — a standing rule of the practice, and one you are invited to hold us to.
A second view when it counts
Two partners share one office and one standard. Where a file benefits from a second view — a pleading before it’s served, an offer before it’s signed — that view is a partner’s, not an associate’s.
The W in the mark is cut from two overlapping V’s — the construction Renaissance punchcutters used. Two strokes, one letter; two partners, one firm. The mark carries the method.
How a file runs.
The first call
Twenty minutes, free, with a partner. Facts, deadlines, a straight read, and what retaining the firm would look like. Confidential either way.
In writing
The engagement letter arrives within one business day — partner, scope, fees, first moves. Nothing begins on a handshake and a hope.
The work
The partner carries the file personally — the drafting, the appearances, the judgment calls. Your calls come back before 4 p.m.
Decisions
Options come with recommendations and reasons — what we’d do, and why. The decisions stay yours.
Resolution
The file closes with you knowing exactly where things landed and what, if anything, comes next. No loose threads, no unreturned calls.

How fees are set
In writing, firstFees are set out in the engagement letter before work begins. Depending on the matter they may be flat, hourly, or staged — the letter states which applies to yours and why, with expected disbursements listed separately.
No surprises
The standing ruleIf the scope of work changes, you hear about it before it costs you anything — the letter is amended first. A bill should never be the first news of anything.
